Philip Ahlqwist was born and raised in Gothenburg, Sweden. After 20 successful years in the Advertising Industry working as a Creative Director, he made his debut as an artist in 2017.
Using a highly sophisticated technique, Philip creates digital images which are then printed onto aluminum sheets. Exploring the relationship between reality and the digital world is at the core of his practice. Natural elements are often the focus, such as flowers and landscapes, which are then transformed into bold, abstract shapes. Taking inspiration from Gerhard Richter's flowers, Hockney’s swimming pools, Carmen Herrera and Julian Opie, Philip’s practice pushes the boundaries of printmaking. ‘My passion is to give the cool and surgical precision of digital media a feeling of lifelike, tactile qualities’.
Recent solo exhibitions include Re: Inventions, A Gallery, 2018; New Generations, Stockholms Auktionsverk, 2019; In Real Life, Göteborgs Auktionsverk.
