Market Art Fair is the leading contemporary art fair in the Nordic region Initiated in 2006 by galleries representing the Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, the fair has become a trusted meeting and market place in the heart of the Nordic art industry. We are thrilled to join Market Art Fair this year with a solo booth presentation by Jessie Stevenson.
Jessie Stevenson is a British artist based between London and North Norfolk. She studied at Central Saint Martins and the Slade School of Fine Art, where she received The Bartolomeu Dos Santos Graduate Award in 2022.
Predominantly focusing on painting, Stevenson is interested in the performative nature of this medium and is directly influenced by her surroundings. Her recent work is inspired by the wild landscape of her home in Norfolk. Interested in natural phenomena, Stevenson takes familiar imagery found in Art history and combines it with her own experience of memory and place to create a feeling of sensory pleasure and spatial uncertainty in the work. By creating her own canvas ground using a mix of local marsh clay, she gives the physical basis of her work an important role in the process of making. Her colours are suggestive of contemporary digital pigments found in fashion advertising, while also evoking a sense of whimsical romanticism.
