Cairo Dwek b. 1998

Cairo Dwek (b. 1998, Los Angeles, USA) is an artist based in London. She graduated from Goldsmiths University with a BA in Fine Art in 2023 and completed her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2025.

Guided by a fascination with optical illusion and the perception of rhythmic space, Dwek constructs visual worlds that oscillate between stillness and motion. Her intricate compositions are built from thousands of hand-painted dots - a contemporary reimagining of pointillism in the age of the pixel. Within these shifting grids of light and pattern, forms expand and dissolve, evoking a sense of immersion and disorientation.

Dwek’s practice explores the metaphorical potential of kinetic motifs, such as waves, fire, and speed, to interpret themes of temporality, digital experience, and the interplay of fear and desire. Her semi-abstract compositions, which intentionally clash curves and straight lines, create a dynamic tension between the illusion of movement and stillness. By juxtaposing this visceral subject matter with the slow, meditative process of hand-painting, Dwek invites the viewer to "step in and out," ultimately questioning the stability of modern perception and the precarious feeling of a digital veil falling away to reveal a raw, immediate reality.
