Wenhui Hao (b.2000, China) is a London based painter. Graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2024 with an MA in Painting, and completed her BA in painting at Capital Normal University, Beijing in 2023.
Hao’s practice engages with the aesthetics and critical discourses surrounding the female body across art history and contemporary culture. Her abstract paintings interweave beauty, ecstasy, and horror to evoke the complexity of feminine corporeal experience.
Rooted in personal, embodied knowledge, particularly the physical and emotional aftermath of abortion, Hao explores vulnerability, desire, trauma, and transcendence as both personal and political states. Her intuitive process rejects preliminary sketches, allowing chaotic, gestural marks to evolve into symbolic terrains: dark rivers, broken ice, wild forests, and ruptured fruits that echo the regenerative yet violated female body.
Wenhui Hao pays homage to the historical representation of the female body in art, while reframing it through a contemporary feminist lens. Her work positions the body not merely as a site of individual experience, but as a condensed field of cultural, emotional, and historical meaning.
