Farr’s work explores a condition of prayer, an inward, meditative state pursued through a layered process of painting. Working in oil on linen, he combines subtle mixtures of pigment and medium to create shifting depths and translucencies. The resulting surfaces invite prolonged looking, their fields of colour and tone changing with the light to produce a rhythm of perception and reflection.
Drawing on the Romantic sublime and the legacy of Colour Field painting, Farr describes his
practice as the pursuit of an ‘empty place’; a state beyond intention or thought, where instinct and discipline converge. While grounded in personal experience, his paintings open toward a collective, contemplative space one that invites both emotional and intellectual engagement.
